Services
In our research we have discovered that artificial nests can be an effective conservation tool because they can increase breeding success of Cliff Swallows and Barn Swallows in certain situations. We offer clay nests for both species, but recommend that before you order them, you discuss your property (or the property they are intended for) with us to make sure the artificial nests are appropriate.
We offer educational and informational presentations in order to share 30 years of what we have learned about conserving swallows in New England. We also offer presentations on species that often can be found nesting in the same habitats as swallows. Check the links below to find out more.
Consultation
A consultation is recommended before ordering artificial clay nests. During a consultation we will discuss your specific habitat, and go over some questions, such as: What type of habitat is your property on and what type of landscape surrounds it? Do you currently have Cliff Swallows and/or Barn Swallows nesting on your property? If not, have you had them in the past, and if so, how long ago? Are House Sparrows present on your property?..and more. If your property is suitable and you order artificial nests, we then discuss the particulars, such as the best locations to install nests and how many are appropriate. At this stage we can also determine if you need nests custom made for a particular configuration. We may ask for photographs. If you order nests and install them, we are always available for follow up questions and advice!
Presentations
We offer presentations that cover several different topics, both in-person and online. Presentations are appropriate for bird/nature clubs, environmental organizations, local community groups, etc.
